9th Annual Minnesota Archives Symposium
The Twin Cities Archives Round Table is pleased to announce the ninth annual Minnesota Archives Symposium (MAS). MAS is a local educational and networking opportunity for archivists, librarians, records managers, curators and other information professionals. We seek to broaden opportunities to share knowledge and insights among peers at a local level. The Symposium will be held on Monday, November 1st on Zoom.
This year’s topics will not be limited to a theme.
Due to the truncated nature of this year’s MAS we have decided to forgo a theme.
Registration is REQUIRED by October 27, 2021, but the event is FREE.

- 10:45-11:30 Session 1: Down to Earth Documentation by Sarah Barsness
- Documenting your work in policies, procedures, manuals, guidelines, how-tos, frameworks, templates, and rubrics is a time-consuming, difficult process. We all know the benefits, but getting documentation done is often nearly impossible. But if I can do it, so can you! This session will discuss practical, real-life strategies I’m using to create and expand my own documentation

- 12:45-1:20 Session 2: Halfway There: Inheriting a Large Collection as a Lone Arranger by Erin McBrien
- The Federal Cartridge business archive is comprised of not only documents, but also developed photographs, moving image film, still image film, 3D artifacts, packaging, printing plates, and framed art. After weeding, it measures at slightly over 85 linear feet of archival material, not including framed objects and printing plates. It is a relatively recent acquisition of the Anoka County Historical Society, which has a small staff including only one full-time archivist. Inheriting this collection as a work in progress was especially challenging, and involved near-constant assessment and reassessment. The current ACHS archivist will be going through the hurdles of taking on a collection halfway through processing, including everything from weeding to cataloging to hiring interns.
